We had a beautiful, sunny spring day to plant our cool weather crops! 13 classrooms came out to help plant peas, lettuce, carrots, spinach, radishes and potatoes. Thanks to some amazing Master Gardener volunteers, we were able to get everything planted and learned a lot along the way.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAunnamedOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAunnamed (2)

ImageHave you eaten Swiss chard? It’s yummy! The seeds look like little rocks. You need to plant the seeds one foot apart. It grows up out of the ground and has leaves. We can cook the leaves or cut them and eat them fresh. Other names for Swiss chard are silver beet, Roman kale, and strawberry spinach. Swiss chard is awesome!

Do you love cucumbers? The cucumber see looks like a small pumpkin seed. They are flat and yellow. When the cucumber grows it has two big leaves. The flower grows first and looks pretty. After the flower falls off, the cucumber will grow. You can put chilled cucumber slices on your eyes for puffiness. Or you can cut slices and dip them in salt. Truly, I like cucumber. It tastes good!
